How to perform music of the 17th & 18th Century in a historical way and therefore make it sound more alive.
How to be able to listen and appreciate the music of that era and use its principals (which we will analyze) in a way that can make them better musicians and even use them in the contemporary music.
What materials/equipment/other things participants need to bring to be able to do this workshop:
Musical instruments (preferable historical instruments, but not necessary), some musical pieces that they might want to play, papers+pencils/pens.
Other important things a participant should know to be able to do this workshop:
It is a workshop where we will discuss all the matters of the historical performance based on written sources, manuscripts and researches. Instrument players can play and singers can sing. They can prepare something from the repertoire of the 17th & 18th century in advance, and bring it, or I will bring anyway several music pieces to work with them there. It applies to people who play: violin, viola, cello, contrabass, viola da gamba, lute, guitar, theorbo, flute, recorder, piano, cembalo, as well as theoriticians and of course singers.
In the end we could present/play something as an ensemble.
Describe clearly the content of this workshop:
The workshop has to do with the historical performance: the interpretation and the repertoire of the late renaissance, baroque and early classic era, and how the music of this era affected all those who followed. The rhetoric gestures, the improvisation, the reading of manuscript scores, the old instruments, the discovering of the huge - unknown for many musicians - repertoire. Also, the historical & political facts that determined & affected the evolution of music.
