After dancing ballet, hiphip, and jazz, it was contemporary dance that captured my heart.
Four years I studied dance at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Amsterdam. I worked as a teacher for different schools and performed with Christian Dance Company at CAS, Opwekking, Vondelpark Openluchttheater ect. I’ve been with company’s in New York, Cleveland, Houston and Senegal to see how they use dance to further people. While I was teaching I discovered that it gives me joy seeing students go through the process of translating my assignment by using their physical capacities and adding their creativity.
Students are finding their own ‘dance vocabulary’ and move stronger.
After so many years of dancing I am still a student learning about the power of movement and how I can be an artisan in the Kingdom. On of my favorite quotes is: ‘The artisan puts flesh on the work of the Spirit, and makes that reality visible for others to experience.’ (An Army Arising by Christ John Otto)
